Guatemalan Playground Project
In January of 2017, I saw a very sad little playground in the town of Flores, Petén, Guatemala and decided that I wanted to help build a better playground for the children. The people down there have little money for these types of things as just surviving can at times be difficult. Through some very good luck, I’ve come into contact with people in the nearby village of San Miguel (which is directly across the lake from Flores) who are very interested in working together to build a playground in their community. Through our discussions, I’ve learned that probably the most important thing I can do to help is to try to raise funds. I will be updating my website soon with a link that people can use to donate and I want to thank you in advance for any donations you might give.
I volunteered as the graphic designer for this organization from 2011 to 2016. One of my main achievements was rebranding the foundation and I am still involved in some project work as the need arises. SurreyCares (previously known as the Surrey Foundation) has the motto “The Foundation of our Community”, which speaks to the fact that all money raised by the foundation is used to help people within the community of Surrey.
Their vision is: to lead a stronger, more meaningful, inclusive community connection into the future, and to build a resilient and resourceful community. We encourage contributions to a community endowment and the earnings flow back to worthwhile community causes in the form of grants.
